Lisa Hannigan played the first of two December shows in Vicar Street on Thursday night. There were plenty of new songs thrown into the mix with all the favourites from the Mercury-nominated Sea Sew. That Mercury nomination didn’t feature in Lisa’s round-up of the band’s personal events of the past year; which did include a wedding, captured girlfriends, more albums and yet another failed driving test. Lisa put that failure down to nerves but she showed no such signs tonight as she expertly kept the crowd in the palm of her hand right up until the set-closing cover of Depeche Mode’s “Personal Jesus” which featured Lisa banging away on (what we concluded must have been) a sitar with a bow.
