A bit delayed in putting these up, but here’s some of the photos from Rory Grubb’s album launch gig in Whelan’s Upstairs last week. Overall it was a good gig by Rory and his accomplices in front of a large crowd. It was a very different style of performance to what I’d seen of him before, leaving the kind of Leonard Cohen story-telling balladry behind for a more lively, robust sound. I also really enjoyed the debut outing of Greg Breen’s solo stuff, he had some nice little tunes designed to accompany you on a summer jaunt around the dodgy roads of the west of Ireland. I’ve been listening to Rory’s album “Sketches from the Big Sleep” over the past week at home and I’ve really been impressed by the classy atmospheric quality of the album. It’s available from Road Records or big, tall Rory if you bump into him. Photos below and on Flickr.
